Historic Dunvegan Provincial Historic Site
Fairview, Alberta
The Hudson’s Bay Company Factor’s House is the second oldest fur trade building on its original site in Alberta!
The North West Company established Fort Dunvegan as a fur trading post in 1805 – 100 years before Alberta became a province!
Local legend, Henry “Twelve Foot” Davis set up an independent fur trade post in 1865 across the river from Fort Dunvegan.
The Peace River valley that Dunvegan is located in has the characteristics of two different climate zones – the south side of the valley is temperate with lots of trees and greenery, while the north side is arid with short grasses and cacti.
