Fun Facts
Located on the shores of the Fraser River, two of the heritage buildings (Britannia Shipyard and Seine Net Loft) are built on stilts on top of the water. Flood panels protect the buildings on the “land side” of the site, and are raised during winter king tide and the June freshet seasons.
The tidal marsh offers views of songbirds, herons, bald eagles and other animals that make their homes in the brackish (mix of fresh & salt) water.
The Britannia Shipyard was once a salmon cannery, and the entire building was “upcycled” and transformed into a shipyard to repair fishing boats in the early 1900s.
The picturesque national historic site has been used as a filming location for movies and tv shows.
