Southern Explorations In Ontario
My VisitList will be full of bridges, mills/foundations, cultural centres, parks/landscapes and rich history. I love learning about local history and researches places close to home that I can explore or adventure through. I enjoy travelling and sharing my adventures with others. Always learning, exploring and loving every minute. I have a high respect for nature so I leave only foot prints on my adventures. Never more. Most of these places I have visited but haven’t taken many photos. This #Visitlist is my updated adventures of previously explored places. I had to re-visit some places as it had been a while. Thank you for every opportunity to learn more about our locals and remember our roots in how our cities developed.
Places
Harrington Grist Mill est.1846
Embro, Ontario
The Harrington Grist mill has always interested me, having friends who grew up in Harrington. I finally went for a walk around it during the winter time. It is still well looked after by the small town but is no linger in use. It is a heritage site and has some trails around the mill. There is a huge pond behind the mill. Gorgeous area for photos.
Grand Trunk Trestle
Saint Marys, Ontario
This is one of my favourite spots in St Mary’s. It is so peaceful and they have done some events on the trail in 2019. The trail is beautiful and is such a scenic spot in town. It over looks the water and the sunset views from it are spectacular♡. I go there often to walk my dogs or check out the sunsets when the days are nice. There is also a farm that can be seen from the trail. Cows are always out grazing.
The Fryfogel Tavern
Canada
This is part of history- the Fryfogel Inn. It’s beauty is unlike any other Inn of it’s kind. It is also one of the last taverns standing from it’s time. There is a small cemetery on the lot, that lays the Fryfogel family to rest on the Inn’s grounds. Beautiful aged headstones all side by side. The Fryfogel’s original owner was said to be the first settler in Perth County- Sebastian Fryfogel. Was built in 1844. Beautiful red brick with character and unique architecture. Great little spot for a day visit. So peaceful and full of rich history.
Woodside National Historic Site
Kitchener, Ontario
I visited this park for the first time a few years ago. It is rich in history. There is a house there with a cute barn. Lots of of information on the local history which is pretty cool.
Town of St. Marys Heritage Walking Tour
Saint Marys, Ontario
Beautiful walk, full of history of the township of St. Marys. St.Marys was originally a stone mason town and a lot of the buildings architecture reflect that. The pub downtown used to be the post office and the shops across used to house the opera house back in the early 1900s. St. Marys was named one of the most beautiful towns due to its historic architecture. Love walking the downtown of this township. Unique buildings with so so much history to learn and share.
