Huron County Museum & Historic Gaol + Reciprocal Membership Sites #CanadianVisitList

The Huron Historic Gaol and Huron County Museum can be visited together with discounted joint admission May-October. They are only a five minute walk apart (or an even shorter drive) in Goderich, Ontario. Make sure you don’t miss either site!

The museum & gaol are municipal sites managed by the County of Huron. Both feature historical buildings with updated exhibits. Favourite things to do at the museum are ringing the train bell, seeing the two-headed calves, and visiting the newest temporary exhibit(s). Every object was donated from the community & has a story. At the gaol, visitors can get their ‘mug shot’ with real crimes that landed prisoners behind bars in the past, including “profane language” and “truancy.” Hear stories of the prisoners and employees from a guided tour with staff (booked in advance for groups), or self-guided with audio tourmates.

The gaol overlooks the Maitland River and local hiking trails, and the museum is a short walk from Courthouse Square, Goderich’s unique downtown core. Both sites are a short drive from public beaches, shopping and restaurants.

The Museum is open year-round, and the gaol seasonally..

An annual membership to the museum includes free regular admission, program discounts, and free admission to select special events. It also features free admission to FOUR reciprocal partners!
