Chinatowns: A Bridge Between Cultures #CanadianVisitList

As a first-generation Chinese Canadian from a mid-size city, visits to Chinatown have always brought joy and familiarity. For my VisitList, I chose the theme of Chinatown and the Chinese diaspora to explore the impact of Chinese immigrants in Canada. Wherever I visit a new municipality, I always look for the Chinatown or the westernized Chinese restaurants to remind me of my dad’s business when he first came to Canada. Some may say it’s not “authentic,” but to me, it reflects adaptation—just like my parents adjusting to life in Canada. My Chinese heritage and Canadian upbringing together reflect what I believe Canada stands for: multiculturalism.
