Located at 3180 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg, the Historical Museum of St. James-Assiniboia is home to three buildings including the historically designated 1856 Red River Frame House, the 1911 Municipal Hall, and our 1890s Interpretive Centre. The museum is open for walk-in visits and group tours year-round.

Come explore the rich, local history of the St. James-Assiniboia area. Walk through our historically designated, two-storey Red River Frame House from 1856. Fully furnished with period pieces, the original home of Scottish immigrant William Brown was moved from its original location in Headingley to its current home on Portage Avenue in 1973. Next, view exhibits on the development of St. James-Assiniboia in the historic 1911 Municipal Hall, original building of the Municipality of Assiniboia Council. Finish your visit by visiting the displays on pioneer life inside our 1890s Interpretive Centre.
