Opened in 1970, just after homosexual acts were decriminalised in Canada, Club 654 was the first exclusively gay club in Winnipeg! The club was located in the upstairs of the building. It was operated by volunteers, and was a members-only after hours club without a liquor license. It has been said that few women ever attended the club.
