The Halifax Station was originally constructed in 1928 and is currently registered under the Heritage Railway Stations Protection Act.

The Halifax station has been designated a heritage railway station for its considerable historic and architectural significance as well as its environmental profile. In its size, design and location, the Halifax station clearly illustrates the emphasis once placed on rail passenger service by the Canadian National Railways (CNR). It is also one of the few remaining examples of a railway station and hotel complex, a once fairly common arrangement reflecting the emphasis by rail companies on tourism and passenger accommodation.
