Originally built at the confluence of the Red River and Assiniboine River in 1809-1810, Fort Gibraltar was a North West Company trading post. Fort Gibraltar played a crucial role in the development of the Red River Colony and in the conflict between the North West Company and the Hudson’s Bay Company. Step back in time! Visit Fort Gibraltar and we will introduce you to the history of the North West Company’s voyageurs and the lively characters who called it home during the fur trade era. Plan to spend approximately two hours strolling around the grounds, touring the buildings of the fort and meeting costumed interpreters along the way.
