CN 2747 is the Transcona Museum’s largest artifact. Built in April 1926, it was the first steam locomotive constructed in Western Canada and the first built at the Transcona Shops. CN 2747 was retired from service in 1960 and placed on outdoor display.
Today, CN 2747 remains on display year-round in Rotary Heritage Park, where it continues to inspire visitors of all ages. The Transcona Museum purchased the locomotive in 2015, and we proudly opened the protective enclosure in June 2024.
Visitors can view CN 2747 during our open-gate hours and at special events. Interpretive panels and interactive QR codes offer additional information about the history of CN 2747, its preservation, and other related topics.
The Protective Enclosure has received two awards: the 2024 Award of Excellence from the Association of Manitoba Museums (AMM) and the 2025 Distinguished Service Award from Heritage Winnipeg.
