The ByWard Market is a vibrant neighbourhood in the heart of downtown Ottawa. One of Ottawa’s premier tourist destinations and an area where locals go to work, shop, dine and play. There are over 600 businesses and a world-renowned farmer’s market.
It was the site of the Stoney Monday Riot of 1849, a conflict over the possible relocation of the nation’s capital.
The Byward Market is a great place for discovering shops for souvenirs to take home or why not enjoy some great food at one of the many restaurants. While visiting the market there are other close by museums to check out or even a tour on the Rideau Canal.
