Hillcrest Cemetery, atop the storied Gallows Hill (which is shared with the iconic Lunenburg Academy) has been the main burial ground for the town of Lunenburg since 1753. From the early Foreign Protestant settlers to the men and women who built the town, those who sailed the Bluenose to victory, and many other figures of Lunenburg’s colourful past lie buried in this large, three-century-old cemetery. Guided tours are held on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 11:00am and 2:00pm, and a tour on Sundays at 2:00pm, with opportunities for other times available by contacting lunenburgcemeterytours@gmail.com.
