Explore Winnipeg’s easternmost suburb at the Transcona Museum. We collect, preserve, and share the stories of Transcona through learning and discovery.

Housed in a historic 1925 building that once served as the Bank of Toronto and later the Transcona Municipal Office, the museum offers an engaging look into local heritage. From railway roots to community life, the Transcona Museum is a place where stories are shared.

Fun Facts

  • Constructed between 1924 and 1925, this two-storey brick building features a Neo-Classical design. The first floor offered banking services, vaults, and offices, while the second floor served as an apartment for a bank employee.
  • In 1943, the Town of Transcona bought the former bank building for its Municipal tax offices.
  • In 1980, the building was assigned as the new home of the Transcona Historical Museum. That same year, 141 Regent Avenue West was designated a Class III Heritage Building by the City of Winnipeg.

  • On 16 October 1930, the Bank of Toronto was robbed of $12,000. The incident sparked a media frenzy. The police quickly launched a manhunt in Transcona and Winnipeg, leading to the capture of three men. They were charged with armed robbery and sentenced to prison. A complete account of the robbery, manhunt, and trial can be read here.
  • According to a Transcona News article from September 1963, the corner of Regent Avenue and Bond Street was described as the “warmest spot in Transcona.”
