2025 #CanadianVisitList Contest

It is no secret that Canadians have been through a lot this year- that’s why it’s especially important to celebrate Canada’s heritage. This year, the National Trust introduced a new #CanadianVisitList contest to celebrate historic places and awarded $3,000 in cash prizes! The National Trust introduced #CanadianVisitList contest to keep the excitement of exploring Canada’s historic places alive by inviting participants to tell us about their favourite places or where they hope to visit next!

From coast to coast to coast, twenty-seven Canadians accepted our invitation and collectively listed over 160 historic sites that they love and are eager to explore. Forts of Western Canada #CanadianVisitList by Theresa Marie Deyholos recounted Canada’s history and credited early explorer Peter Fiddler’s work mapping Western Canada; whilst others focused their theme on a personal connection – like Chinatowns: A Bridge Between Cultures #CanadianVisitList by Jessica Lui.

Tourist in my own backyard #CanadianVisitList by Karen Mahoney listed the sites close to her that she hopes to visit; while others, like Invaluable Gains from One Coast to the Other #CanadianVisitList by Maple Syrup and My #CanadianVisitList for Supporting Locally-Made Crafts by Patricia Kell, CEO of the National Trust for Canada, shared memories from historic sites they’ve already travelled to across the country.

Contestants also shared their provincial pride in VisitLists like Historical Summer Road Trips in N.B #CanadianVisitList by Jeffrey Stakery and My realistic Summer 2025 #CanadianVisitList by Andree Paquin that lists the Historic Sites in Quebec she’ll be visiting this summer. Regardless of theme, each #CanadianVisitList entry inspired a sense of wonder about the country we live in. By creating this digital platform, Historic Places Days continues igniting a nation-wide sense of community that lasts all year!

Congratulations to Mitchell Crouse for submitting the winning #CanadianVisitList Entry, 2025 PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation VisitList; and congratulations to Alton Mill Arts Centre, this year’s winning #CanadianVisitList historic site! Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry and to all the sites who registered to participate in the 2025 Historic Places Days celebration. We hope to see you all participate again next year!
