The Winnipeg Station was originally constructed in 1911 with a major renovation completed in the 1990s in order to comply with Labour Canada requirements.

Manitoba Winnipeg Union Station was constructed in 1908-11 to designs of the New York architectural firm of Warren and Wetmore. It provided terminal facilities for the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR), the National Transcontinental Railway (NTR) and the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway (GTPR). The station was subsequently taken over by Canadian National Railways (CNR) and, after the formation of VIA Rail Canada Inc. in 1977, became Winnipeg’s only rail passenger terminal. It is now the city’s sole functioning railway station. Refer to Railway Station Report 4.
