Wanuskewin Heritage Park is an Award winning National Heritage Site that details the varied cultures of the Northern Plains Indigenous Peoples. For over 6400 Years every Nation on the Northern Plains has gathered here for hunting, ceremony and trade. This site is currently on the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage Designation, soon to become the first in Saskatchewan’s history.
Today the site features daily cultural tours, state of the art exhibits as well as over 7km of trails to explore the stories within the opimihaw Valley. The site also features, a herd of Plains Bison that are essential to life on the prairie.
Wanuskewin has been a sacred site and gathering place for over 6,000 years, and is a living reminder of Indigenous people’s relationship with the land. Every year in August, Wanuskewin Heritage Park celebrates a Han Wi Moon Dinner, celebrating the Northern Plains’ people, landscape, ingredients, and culture. The meal features Bannock, Lakota squash, bison, wild rice, and more. Not able to attend the Han Wi Moon Dinner? The restaurant on site features foods made from traditional ingredients all year round.
