Fun Facts:

  • This house for many years was the largest in Pictou, it is said to have been built by businessman John Dawson who was in Pictou as early as 1791. Alex Campbell and Andrew Miller purchased the property from Janet Dawson in 1832. Miller carried on a baking business until 1864. The Tanner family, of which Senator Charles Tanner was a member, carried on a wholesale shoe business which was later taken over by J.W. Priest.

  • It is believed that the property housed Public Health Offices in the 1960’s through to the early 1970’s. It is probable that the original entrance was on the east side.

  • Edward Charles Mullholland operated the Stonehouse Pizza, 1982-1985

  • Johannas & Siepie Hylkema owned the building, Johannas was the architect for the Ship Hector, 1985-1987

  • Alexander Hugh & Gardia MacDonald operated the Stonehouse Café & Pizzeria, 1988-2009

  • Private residence for the Honourable Karla M. MacFarlane, MLA Pictou West

  • Private residence of Tabitha Co, and business of TABITHA + CO™ INC. 2020 ~ Present

  • Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia, Commercial Award 2022
  • Bonus ~ some say that ‘The Stonehouse’ is haunted. Tabitha likes to think that her beautiful historical building has personality.
