The Symmes Inn Museum, located in the Old Aylmer sector of Gatineau, is a regional history museum. Our permanent exhibition, “The Symmes Inn: A Window on the Outaouais,” tells the story of the various roles played by the Ottawa River over the years through five tableaux. Additionally, we have two temporary exhibitions: “Through Forests and Rivers, Men of Courage,” which narrates the history of the forestry industry in the Outaouais, and “Pharmacy of Yesteryear: Remedies, Medicines, and Instruments from the Farley Pharmacy,” showcasing over 100 artifacts demonstrating the evolution of the pharmaceutical industry and the profession of pharmacy.

The Symmes Inn Museum has recently become an accredited museum institution by the Ministry of Culture and Communications. The building, constructed in 1831 by Charles Symmes, the founder of Aylmer, is classified as a historical monument by the Government of Quebec and designated as a National Historic Site of Canada. Come discover the history of the Outaouais, and enjoy free admission!

The Museum offers several free activities this summer! Visit our website to check our schedule!
