Fun Facts

– During it’s time, the Sydney & Louisbourg Railway was the third busiest railway, with only CN and CP Rail moving more cargo that included coal, fish and steel.

– In the 1930s there were some days where 400 swordfish were caught and processed in one day.

– Louisbourg harbour is known for it’s shipwrecks from the sieges that took place at the Fortress of Louisbourg.

– The port was important strategically during the World Wars. A number of ships that regularly visited Louisbourg were sunk by German U-Boats.

– The community of Louisbourg played a role in the recovery efforts related to the Titanic.
