St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Wildwood was built in 1930 by local community members using locally-sourced materials.
The building features have been adapted to the local environment, which included the arrangement of windows to allow for sufficient interior light given Wildwood did not have electricity until the late 1950’s.
In 1957, the St. Alphonsus Council was established, made up of local women dedicated to maintaining the church and providing support throughout the community. With funding from bake sales and bingos, the council has been able to provide upkeep on the building while supporting local schools, seniors and charity endeavors.
