Ruthven Park was home to five generations of the Thompson family.  The Thompson family were involved in provincial and Canadian politics, the military and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

The family estate is located along the lands of the Grand River just north of Haldimand’s county seat in Cayuga.  The estate consists of approximately 598 hectares of Carolinian Woodlands including rare slough forests.
