Take a walk around Charlottetown and you can’t miss it – Province House is under construction. As the home of the Prince Edward Island Legislature and a place of national historic significance, Province House National Historic Site is a building that holds many stories. The site was designated as a national historic site for its role in the Charlottetown Conference of 1864, as well as for its neo-classical architectural style and representation of the judicial institution of Prince Edward Island. While these topics will remain the cornerstones of the new exhibits, the stories chosen and how they are told will be broadened to include many narratives, perspectives, and voices which have not previously been heard. While Province House undergoes this important conservation work and exhibit redevelopment, visitors can explore “The Story of Confederation” at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown which includes an impressive replica of the Confederation Chamber (including some original pieces). Come, take your seat at the table, and learn about some of the history of this treasured place.
