Originally a theater built in 1940, Pete’s transitioned to an ice cream shop in the early 1960s under Florence Rubin’s management. The building was originally built in 1940 and opened as the Capitol Theater showing movies until the mid-1970s.
Pete first sold ice cream, fountain soda and french fries in a corner of the theater in the early 1960s.
The namesake of “Pete’s” was a woman named Florence Rubin. She, and her husband Nate, ran the shop until her death in 2003. After 2003, their daughter has been managing/owner.
