The stone cross monument was built in 1930 to honour the veterans who had fought in the First World War. Dominic and Jonas Odjig, both World War 1 Veterans, were bestowed the privileged to construct the memorial. The plaques further explain the Memorial Monument and also the 1862 McDougal Treaty which defines the term “Unceded” that is an integral part of the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory identity.
