Luxton Home

The Historic Luxton Home tells the story of a Banff family – Norman Luxton, Georgina McDougall Luxton and their daughter Eleanor. A family of pioneers: Norman sailed in a dugout canoe from Canada to Australia in 1901; Georgina, on record as the first white person born in Alberta in the 1870’s, grew up in Morley speaking the Cree language before she spoke English; and Eleanor, after earning multiple university degrees, designed locomotive engines for the CPR in the 1940’s. The Home Museum features a glimpse into the life of this amazing family and of Banff over a period of 9 decades. It houses stunning collections of First Nations artifacts, paintings, china, furniture and more. The Luxton Garden is also part of the historic footprint, with 120 year old lilac trees and a garden designed in the Arts and Craft Style ca. 1910.
