Located in the historic Gaol built in 1863, the Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives (KLMA) shares and preserves fascinating stories and unique regional artifacts and records.

The Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives is a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to increasing community awareness and appreciation of local heritage. It seeks to inspire and engage with the public through cultural exhibits, events, and partnerships within its community. Through its outreach initiatives, KLMA features, celebrates, preserves, and shares local stories and how they connect to Canada’s history.

  • the jail was built in 1863 and in use as a correctional institution until 2003
  • five men were sentenced to hang, but only 2 made it to the courtyard’s gallows
  • the museum exhibits are updated and changed throughout the year
  • the building is reported to be haunted
