In 1971, a group of gay men and lesbians created the Mutual Friendship Society. Happenings Social Club was a licenced beverage room and dance club for members of the Mutual Friendship Society. The members met monthly in order to plan social events for the community.  It opened in c. 1974, and closed in 2004 after 30 years in business.
