In the heart of downtown Halifax, this strategic hilltop fort offers a commanding view of Halifax Harbour. Step back to 1749 and immerse yourself in the social and military history of Halifax with the 78th Highlanders and the 3rd Brigade Royal Artillery.   • Halifax was the principal naval station of the British Empire and played an important role in Canadian History.
  • The Halifax Citadel was the headquarters for the defense complex that protected Halifax and its naval base from various world wide threats.
  • The year-round, daily noon ceremonial firing of the Halifax Citadel’s 12-pounder gun is one of the most enduring and recognized symbols in Halifax’s history. It is considered one of the oldest continuing noon guns in the world.
