The Green Point Lighthouse has been designated heritage site by Parks Canada.
The Green Point Lighthouse located on the Port de Grave Peninsula has become a beacon to mariners. The Port de Grave Peninsula Heritage Society Inc., has taken over ownership and over the past year with assistance from the Federal and Provincial has developed a visitors dream. The road to the Lighthouse was upgraded and now you drive directly there. The PDGPHS have installed viewing stations and a picnic area, a perfect place for visitors, to watch the boats come and go, if you are lucky see the whales and birds. Sometimes during the year you can see some amazing seas and waves!
A great place to visit, enjoy a picnic while watching the boats go by and if you are lucky you may see some whales. If you visit when the seas are wild, you will be treated to some massive waves, like what is shown in a couple of the photos attached. Take a hike around the headlands and you will stumble across the Quarry! Here locals would gather flat rocks and build rock walls around their properties in days gone by.
Depending on your visit you may pick, blueberries, partridgeberries, marsh berries and cranberries, which is always in abundance!
A great place to come and enjoy an afternoon or maybe you are an early bird and would like to see the sunrise or maybe the beautiful sunset….
