This church was centrally located to minister to the Black communities of Gibson Woods and Pine Woods. Historically Gibson Woods was founded by George Gibson a Black Loyalist in 1802-1803 and the community of Pine Woods was established by another Black family, the Landsey and Powell sisters in 1804.

This building located on this site dates back to 1902,  is now an educational resource and museum.
