Like many early pioneer communities, the first residents of Carrot Creek, AB recognized a need for a school.

Upon petition by local residents, the Department of Education established School District No. 2875 in 1913 and the Carrot Creek School was completed one year later.

Early schools functioned with relative autonomy; in a small community like Carrot Creek, a single teacher would educate all children from grades one to ten.

Population influxes and declining tax revenue led to the amalgamation of local school boards and the closure of the school in 1953.

While schools today have more children and teachers, the Carrot Creek School still stands as a reminder of the community’s past and how far the education system, has developed in the past 100 years.

The school is located at the corner of Township Road 534 and Range Road 133 in the Carrot Creek, AB area.
