The Library of Vieux Saint-Laurent, once known as the Library of Library of St Laurent, a Municipal Library in the St. Laurent Municipality.
The Architectural Plans of Architect Maurice Major display an innovative solution for a difficult corner where the Library is situated. Designed in an contemporary style in a modernist fashion the architectural approach evokes a feeling of ‘classism’. The interior presents a large number of windows allowing a large number of natural light to filter through the building. The two level library featuring a mezzanine level features supporting columns in the interior & exterior of the Library connecting ‘Modernism & Classism ‘ mouvments in Architectural Stylism.
The construction of the Library dates to 1965, at the Site of the original City Hall of Ville St. Laurent. The area is directly linked to Village of Vieux St. Laurent, where the present day Colleges and Museum is located.
The Mayor M. Marcel Laurin as well as Minister of Cultural Affairs were present for the occasion.
In 2009, the capacity of the Library was found insufficient for the 30,000 residents of the area.
The recent construction of the renowned Bibliothèque du Boisé was recently completed.
