Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site is an extensive industrial heritage site. Both a National Historic Site and a Provincial Historic Resource, Atlas preserves the last of the 139 mines that operated in the Drumheller Valley from 1911-1979. The site comprises numerous buildings, trackways, machines, tools, and documents from the working mine.
Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site is the most complete coal mining museum in Canada. It is completely visitor supported, receiving no operational support from any level of government.
