The Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is home to the oldest Anglican Parish in Canada, having been established in 1699. The Cathedral itself, a National Historic Site, was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and was completed in 1885. The Cathedral was subsequently partially destroyed in the Great Fire of 1892, and then rebuilt following the same design and completed in 1905. The Cathedral is still home to an active faith community in the heart of old St. John’s.
