Admiralty House Communications Museum is located just outside the city of St. John’s. Visiting us will fascinate you with local community history, the evolution of communications technology, the Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve, and the tragedy of the S.S. Florizel.

Enjoy captivating, surprising, and once top-secret stories. This historic building was originally constructed in 1915 by the Marconi Telegraph Co. during the First World War as the top-secret H.M. Wireless Station for the
British Royal Navy. This station is now the last standing of the 11 identical stations around the world. It was re-opened as a museum in June 1997.

Fun Facts

One of our artifacts is a taxidermy carrier pigeon from the First World War. He is named Archie, and he is our unofficial mascot!

Outside our museum we have a segment from the radio towers that used to surround the station. The towers were 305 feet tall and each segment is about 10.5 feet long!
