The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is Canada’s only charity dedicated to the protection of public land, freshwater and ocean with a strong national and regional presence across the country. Working in a way that respects the sovereignty and leadership of Indigenous nations, we are focused on conserving nature to respond to the dual crises of accelerated biodiversity loss and climate change.

Hunter Stevens is a biologist currently employed by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society. Originally from Saskatoon, he moved here in 2019 to complete a Master’s in Biology where he studied juvenile Atlantic salmon movements in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Since completing his thesis in 2021, he taught Invertebrate Biology and Scientific Diving Methods in Ecology at Dalhousie University. Hunter now works to protect the biodiversity that has captivated him all his life, and also to inspire that same passion in others.

“The LaHave Islands are home to a stunning community of marine flora and fauna. The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society’s Nova Scotia chapter has been conducting biodiversity surveys around the LaHave Islands and invites you to attend a presentation showcasing the dazzling species that can be found just beneath the surface.”
