A Brief History:
The Admiral Digby Museum had its beginnings in 1966 as a library created by the Digby Library Association in the “Woodrow/Dakin House,” an 1840’s Loyalist/Georgian style building, at 95 Montague Row.
In 1970, after a great deal of work, the library opened to the public with Anna Ruth Rogers as the first librarian. A few antiques placed in the library were the start of the present Admiral Digby Museum.
The town of Digby was originally named Conway after General Henry Seymour Conway (1721 – 9 July 1795), but was renamed in 1787 to honour Rear Admiral Robert Digby, who had commanded the fleet bringing Loyalists from New York to this area in 1783.
