The National Trust for Canada is pleased to be hosting an in-person tour of one of Vancouver’s most renowned and historic landmarks: The Vancouver Block, 1912
Join us on this special behind-the-scenes tour of the Vancouver Block, its architecture, and its unique clock, which is currently undergoing restoration. This is an exciting opportunity to discover this architecturally unique building which has been gracing Vancouver’s skyline for 111 years through the eyes of two renowned specialists:
Donald Luxton, of Donald Luxton and Associates, is Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and a renowned heritage conservationist who is thoroughly familiar with the Vancouver Block. Donald will share information on the neoclassical architecture, original construction and luxurious materials of this Edwardian-era landmark.
Ray Saunders, of Landmark Clocks International and Horologist, has built some 200 public clocks over the course of his 60 year career, including the famous Gastown Steam Clock. Ray will be presenting on his current restoration of the Vancouver Block clock, with images and artifacts, and providing a unique glimpse into the world of clock restoration.
Kirstin Evenden, Director, Business Development and Partnerships, National Trust for Canada, will be in attendance.
Time: July 23rd, 2-3pm (PT), please arrive 10 minutes early and meet in the lobby. Please note that while the event is free, registration is required.
Location: Vancouver Block, 736 Granville Street
Accessibility: The tour requires moving around the building on foot and on an elevator; please note that the tour is not wheelchair friendly as steep stairs are required to access the clock tower. If you require support to participate in the tour, please email in advance at the email below.
Please note there is no parking available at the Vancouver Block nor on Granville Street. We encourage attendees to arrive by transit given the building’s proximity to the Skytrain and its location on major bus routes.
