Get the inside story of how community volunteers transformed a barren patch of Guild Park & Gardens into a vibrant pollinator garden.
Organized by Friends of Guild Park as part of #HISTORICPLACESDAYS 2024 in partnership with the National Trust for Canada.
In 2011, the run-down Guild Park was listed on Canada’s Top 10 Most Endangered Sites as an example of “demolition by neglect.” The future of the former Guild of All Arts, Canada’s only artists’ community founded during the Great Depression was at risk.
The designation by the National Trust proved a call to action to Guild Park’s many supporters and stakeholders. Happily, the past decade has seen a dramatic renewal of the site. The turn-around was so successful that last year, the National Trust recognized Guild Park as one of its “Great Saves” in the past 50 years.
This Pollinator Garden is a pivotal project in Guild Park’s ongoing revitalization as a unique Canadian destination, where Art Meets Nature.
During this tour and presentation, hear how the collaborative efforts spearheaded by community residents is making a difference to one of Canada’s historic assets and the local environment.
The 30 minute talk takes place in-person at Guild Park and will be live streamed via https://www.facebook.com/events/10020300749
After the virtual tour of the garden, host John Mason, President of Friends of Guild Park, will lead an interactive discussion about the 88-acre site’s ongoing revitalization.
Guild Park visitors, National Trust supporters, and history buffs worldwide are welcome to join in and share questions and comments.
