Discover links to Central Alberta’s past with a visit to the Mirror and District Museum. Featuring indoor exhibits and outdoor historical points of interest, there is something new to learn with every visit. The museum showcases the heritage of Mirror and surrounding areas such as Lamerton, Ripley, Gadsby Lake, Alix, Nebraska, Lake Bend, Stanton and Hickling District.

Indoors, we have exhibits featuring First Nations artifacts from the area, the Canadian National Railway, Mirror’s Dr Chown, the Mirror Marching Band, The Women of Aspenland and domestic articles showcasing daily life of those in the Mirror district over the past century. See the baseball display from Kid Ray’s barber shop! Hear an original Edison Amerola Cylinder Player!  Learn the lore of James Gadsby! For those wanting to enhance their own genealogy research, a stop by our Resource Room is a must- containing history books for surrounding towns and districts, books on local families, photography archives of local people and sights, as well as books for purchase about Alberta historical topics. And for the kids: can you find all the tiny cabooses we have hidden in the museum? Find them all and have your name added to our wall of fame.

Outdoors, we have an original CN Caboose, rebuilt in 1952, which visitors may step inside of and experience what life was like for brakemen and conductors. Don’t forget a visit to historic St Monica’s Church, built in 1895, the oldest church in Lacombe County.

Access: The museum, resource room and washroom are located on one level with a flat pathway from the parking lot. The outside of the Caboose is accessed with a paved ramp, but there are stairs to go up into the Caboose. To access St Monica’s Church there are stairs from the sidewalk.
