The historic buildings represent the early fur trade through the time of early industries being built in Sault Ste Marie. The Ermatinger Old Stone House 1812 and the Clergue Blockhouse ( base a Powder Magazine 1819 , Blockhouse residence 1895 ). The Ermatinger Old Stone House built for fur trader Charles Ermatinger during the fur trade. The house depicts the years 1812 thru 1880’s and those who lived and worked within it over the decades. Francis Hector Clergue was an early Industrialist settling here in Algoma in 1894 and starting early industries shaping the development of Sault Ste Marie. Site includes a visitors centre : The Heritage Discovery Centre and replica historic gardens.
