Imagine being in the newly incorporated City of Vancouver exactly 140 years ago. Vancouver is Ashes author Lisa Anne Smith, with Peter Phillips in the role of Hastings Mill Store Manager Calvert Simson, recreate the events of June 13, 1886, when most of the city was destroyed by an out-of-control clearing fire. Sample fire refugee “provisions”, write a letter to Mayor Malcolm Maclean expressing your wishes for how the city should be rebuilt, enter a “Comfort Basket” free draw and learn about fire safety in our changing world. This free, accessible event is being made possible through the generous funding of the Kitsilano Neighbourhood House Neighbourhood Small Grant program.
