As you drive down Main Street in Alix it’s hard to miss the Heritage Mural on the Alix Wagon Wheel Museum depicting scenes from early days in the village. You’ll see a horse and bullock hitched to the Todd’s covered wagon, one of Alix’s three railroad stations, the creamery, the first school and church, Irene Parlby of the Famous Five and more.

We welcome you to get immersed in the rich history of our village and surrounding area. Venture inside to interact with the touchscreen in the Parlby Exhibit and enjoy a great collection of Artwork by local artists. Marvel at our unique sculpture formed when butter and aluminum melted together during the creamery fire. Our taxidermy collection of Central Alberta Wildlife allows you to get up close and personal with a Golden Eagle, a Swainson’s Hawk, our provincial bird – the Great Horned Owl, other birds and fish. Meet Eager Beaver who once lived in Alix Lake. Learn the stories that the objects in our collections tell about Pioneer Life as you see a working gramophone, spinning wheels and an extensive collection of tools. Explore the Sports display which includes an Indigenous lacrosse stick and polo equipment. Visit our Service Room honoring the men and women from our area who served and see military uniforms, a gas mask, documents and memorabilia. Get inspired in our Reading and Research section. Children, we challenge you to see how many Alix-gators you can find hidden amongst the artifacts.

Other exhibits that will help you unlock the past are: Railroads, Women of Aspen land, Early School Districts and Churches, Indigenous Artifacts, Dolls and Homemade Toys, Geological Samples and Fossils, Revamped Irene Parlby Exhibit with touchscreen.
