A key element in the defence of the Halifax Harbour in the 19th and 20th centuries and a command centre during World War II, York Redoubt has long played a vital role in protecting this strategic port city since it was first built in 1793. Consistently renovated to keep up with technology and the changing face of war, its 27 buildings, related structures and armaments sit high above wooded cliffs, overlooking the entrance to the harbour.
