The stone cross monument was built in 1930 to honour the veterans who had fought in the First World War. Dominic and Jonas Odjig, both World War 1 Veterans, were bestowed the privileged to construct the memorial. The plaques further explain the Memorial Monument and also the 1862 McDougal Treaty which defines the term “Unceded » that is an integral part of the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory identity.
