Set in picturesque Muskoseepi Park, the Grande Prairie Museum opened in 1971 with a focus on preserving the pioneer history of the area. The Museum offers a high level of accessibility and is suitable for all ages. Our galleries feature both temporary and permanent exhibits including the first homesteaders, and traders who contributed to the development of the Peace Region. Visitors find a replica paleontological dig site featuring locally found bones of an Edmontosaurus, prehistoric stone artifacts used by the first Indigenous people to settle this area, transportation artifacts including a replica train station, military displays and more.
The Grande Prairie Museum also includes our seasonal Heritage Village. The Grande Prairie Museum’s adjoining Heritage Village is open May through September (weather depending). It consists of 14 historical/display buildings relocated and restored from the Grande Prairie area, or constructed as a replica of the original building. The Hudson Bay Outpost dates from 1896 and is one of the oldest building in the area. The machine shed features antique farm equipment, old cars and other mechanical items providing visitors with a glimpse of what times past were like.
