The Fort Frances Museum & Cultural Centre is located on historic Scott Street in Fort Frances. The building was built in 1898 and was originally a school house. This turned into the local high school in 1914. By 1928, the building was utilized by the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1968, it was home to the police station, assessment office, and the Chamber of Commerce. In 1978, the Fort Frances Museum was created. Since then, the permanent collection has grown, and we house a wide variety of artifacts, archival documents, and photographs. Local exhibitions, incorporating samples from our collection, reflect the history, culture and growth of our community, with a mandate for preserving our past and educating our young. Traveling exhibitions have broader themes, but generally relate to history, culture and art of the area.
When you visit Fort Frances, you can also visit the Sorting Gap Marina where you can see the logging tug boat The Hallett, and also the Lookout Tower.
