The »Surly Bird Saloon » is named for Polly the Parrot who travelled over the Chilkoot Trail during the Klondike Gold Rush. Polly was a yellow-naped green amazon parrot who moved into the hotel after his owners died during the sinking of the SS Princess Sophia in 1918. Polly was known for drinking whiskey, foul language and singing opera. He entertained guests in the hotel until his death in 1972.
