We’re looking for the PURRFECT name for our lynx!
Last year the Museum kicked off an animal naming contest for the animals in our North Eastern Ontario Animal Exhibit. We had such a wonderful response when trying to find the ideal name for « Cedar the Beaver », that we’ve brought the contest back for another edition!
This year, we’ll be featuring the Canadian Lynx from our collection.
Here are a few fun facts about this beautiful and powerful big cat:
- Their average lifespan is between 10-20 years.
- Their paws are basically built in snowshoes, making them effective winter hunters.
- They have extraordinary ears giving them super keen hearing.
- Their fur can change colour based on the climate.
- They are widely known for their ears, and short tails.
- There are 4 kinds of Lynx: Eurasian, Iberian, Canadian and Bobcat.
Send us your name idea to us by August 1st.
The contest is open to kids ages 4-10 years old.
Submit your suggestion using the QR code, or link below.
After August 1st, a selection of names will be chosen for a public vote with a winner announced later in August on our social media feeds. The winner will be awarded a Museum prize pack.
Good luck to all those who enter!
