The Deadheaders is a creative and gardening workshop focused on the maintenance of the historic rose bushes on The Brown Homestead property. Sessions run monthly from July to September with each week featuring a new topic of discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring in their own examples of music and literature to share during our meetings.
The Deadheaders name was inspired by the followers of the band The Grateful Dead, which found its popularity during the 1960s and 1970s, the height of the flower child period of music. The Deadheads were the name given to the fans who followed The Grateful Dead from venue to venue, enjoying their music, but also the counterculture which their lyrics helped to solidify.
Our Deadheaders will be “keeping the peace” through the meditative activity caring for the Homesteads heritage roses accompanied by 60’s and 70’s tunes, and by enjoying roundtable discussions on how flowers have become symbols of love, beauty, and solidarity in literature and general popular culture.
All ages are welcome to participate and are encouraged to bring and share their own music, literature or popular culture examples related to the weekly topics.
